How to boost your body confidence
Do you often look in the mirror and dislike what you see? While most of us have days where we feel great about ourselves, it’s pretty normal to get hung up on body insecurities from time to time – especially in a generation where we are constantly confronted by media portrayals of the ‘perfect body’.
Of course, there is no right or wrong way to look, although it is important to eat a healthy, balanced diet and regularly exercise. But even those who do can still feel insecure about the way they look.
With winter approaching, it might seem easy to hide away in oversized jumpers, but this won’t help to boost your body confidence.
Instead, follow these tips to a more confident, happier you:
Stop discussing body shaming
It’s normal to share your problems and concerns with your friends and family, but frequently discussing negative issues won’t give you a positive mindset.
Stop shaming, complaining and comparing, and instead talk about topics that don’t surround body image. If you find yourself discussing this topic a lot with your friend, make a pact with them to establish a no-go talking zone.
You’ll find that spending time together will become a lot more enjoyable and you’ll feel a lot better afterwards.
Identify your favourite body parts
When you look in the mirror, it’s probably become a habit to first look at the parts of your body that you dislike the most. Instead of focusing on the negatives, identify the parts of your body that you love most.
Saying positive phrases out loud will help to reinforce good thoughts about yourself and boost your confidence levels.
Make positive notes
As well as saying positive comments about your body out loud, write them down on post-it notes. This way, you can stick them around your house and catch sight of them on days when you feel a little down.
These notes of positivity will remind you which body parts you love most, helping to cheer you up and combating the negative things that you think about yourself.
Turn worries into actions
The most important way to boost body confidence is to stop worrying. Of course, this is easier said than done. But staring into the mirror and complaining about the way you look won’t help to change anything.
Get into gear and put an exercise or healthy eating plan in place. You may wish to seek advice from a nutritionist or personal trainer. Even after a few days of sticking to this you will begin to feel and see results, which will no doubt make you feel better about yourself and encourage you to love the skin you’re in.
